Real Estate For People With Disabilities & Special Needs

Dogs always see people from within,

and so do I.

Real Estate with Understanding. Advocacy. Accessibility.

Finding the right home is hard enough. Finding one that truly works for your family’s unique needs—physical, sensory, behavioral, or cognitive—can feel nearly impossible. But you don’t have to do it alone, or with someone who doesn't get it or see you.

I’m Craig Knox, a Pittsburgh Realtor with a deep commitment to helping families navigating disability, special needs, and long-term care considerations to find a place to call home. I also see you, and not from the outside.

Helping You Find Homes That Can Work

Not every home will check all the boxes at first glance—and that’s okay. I specialize in helping families find homes that can be modified to meet accessibility and lifestyle needs.

That includes:

  • One-level or adaptable layouts

  • Spaces ideal for ramps, lifts, or bathroom modifications

  • Proximity to services, support networks, and healthcare providers

  • Trusted contractor referrals for accessibility upgrades

You don’t need a perfect house. You need a home that can become perfect for your family—and I’ll help you find it.

Specialized Real Estate for Families with Disabilities & Special Needs

If you or a loved one are navigating housing with a physical or cognitive disability, behavioral health condition, or special care needs, you know how overwhelming it can be to find a home that truly fits your life—or an agent who understands the unique challenges of creating a safe, functional space. Most real estate agents simply aren’t equipped to help.

I am.  Before real estate, I worked in healthcare and spent years working with waiver programs and home modifications for people with disabilities, and my own family situations, so I have more than experience. I get it.

I specialize in working with families like yours—whether that means finding a home with accessible features, identifying properties that can be modified, or supporting you through a complex transition with compassion and real-world experience.

Because everyone deserves a home, dignity, & respect.

Always Treated with Dignity and Respect. Always.

Every client I serve is treated with dignity, respect, and patience. No assumptions. No shortcuts. No judgment. I take the time to understand your unique circumstances, communicate clearly, and ensure that your goals are front and center in every step of the process. If your needs involve school age kids, I can help you navigate schools and programs that have the best resources to support your child.

You deserve to work with someone who sees not just the whole picture, but the whole person—and who finds a nonverbal person excited in the backseat making some noise normal and their way of participating and not an annoyance or distraction. When you listen, you hear people.

One of the reasons I love dogs so much–they have x-ray vision and they see the person within, and they don’t care about anything else.

Why I’m Different: Experience That Goes Beyond Real Estate

For five of my 15 years in health care before real estate, I worked in leadership roles at UPMC Health Plan and Centene, supporting Pennsylvania’s Community HealthChoices (CHC) program. In that role, I helped individuals with disabilities and long-term support needs transition from institutional care into safe, modified, community-based housing. I’ve overseen:

  • ADA-compliant home modifications like ramps, roll-in showers, widened doorways, stair lifts, and accessible kitchens

  • Coordination between managed care organizations, service coordinators, and housing providers

  • Advocacy for participants facing complex behavioral and cognitive diagnoses

I know how the system works—and how to navigate it with empathy and results. That experience also has equipped me as a Realtor to be of service to people who need more in their real estate journey, like not being seen differently - just seen and heard like everyone else.

This is personal, Too

My connection to this work isn’t just professional. It’s personal.

  • I have a step-brother on the autism spectrum

  • An uncle that grew up in care homes with schizophrenia

  • A cousin who has used a wheelchair her entire life due to a rare cell disease

  • I’ve supported loved ones through Alzheimer's, dementia, and behavioral health challenges

These relationships have shaped how I show up: with respect, patience, and a clear understanding that no two families—and no two needs—are ever the same.
